Preparation is much easier than for a traditional grass seed bed, and takes hours rather than the days of work required to prepare to sow seed. Lay turf all year long, Apart from very wet site conditions or frozen ground or snow, turf can be safely laid all year round. It is cut as established grass so exhibits the same qualities as mature grass in surviving the seasons. No need to remove thousands of small stones For weed strewn sites ( that is most places then! ) we can supply PLANTEX*** weed suppressing mat. ***PLANTEX is a special weed suppressing matting by Dupont which prevents weeds from coming up but allows the grass roots to penetrate downwards. Plantex is laid on top of the finished soil and then the turf laid directly on it. See price below. |
Birds can't eat it The wind can't blow it The weeds can't overrun it You don't wait a year (or two) to use it Gives new house sites a place for kids to play Buy exactly the right amount No wastage when purchasing Fast growth rates |
Turf is cut one morning in Scotland and available in Lerwick the following morning around 10.30 am. Can keep a day or two more before rolling if the weather not too hot. |

| Calculating the amount of
turf you need: Each strip of turf roll
measures
2.45 metres x 41 cm = ONE SQUARE METRE
A full pallet holds 68 square metres (in winter) or 78 square metres (in summer) ***See note below*** You can however purchase only the quantity you need - we only charge for the square metres you require, with freight charges built into the price per metre. So purchasing lawn turf can be very cost efficient and with no waste. Depending on demand at any particular time we may have to consolidate orders to make up full pallets for shipping however from previous years experience we expect to have turf available on a weekly basis. N.B ***Turf is likely to hold more water in winter and pallets have to meet maximum weight limit requirements for lorry transport. Therefore for supply in the winter months ( say November to April ) less turf can be loaded on a pallet.*** See below for ideas on soil preparation and materials |
Weed free Easy to lay Easy to maintain |
| How to prepare the ground The most important aspect is to decide on how flat you want your lawn to be and take appropriate measures to achieve that - using pegged lines or fixed boards to level soil across is one method. Unlike using grass seed there is no need to rake out all the small stones as the turf sits on top and roots through the surface without hindrance. A useful tip is to use builders sand to run a final screed over the soil to smooth the surface before laying the turf. It is also much easier to screed sand than soil especially when wet, and you can contour the sand up to fixed edges such as kerbs or manholes quickly and easily. Just remember to finish the soil/sand about 25mm below the fixed edges to allow for the final level of the laid turf. |
We can also make deliveries of soil, sand, timber etc. with our two tonne tipper trailer or flat bed trailer. Please ask for details. |
