Moss growth on roofs has reached record levels in many parts of the
country today. It creates a dull and dirty appearance on roofs, in both
town and country locations and can contribute to an impression of
neglect and decline.
Roofing materials like tiles, slates, fibre, concrete and asbestos all
become dull and weakened by moss growth, and even the thinnest layer of
moss causes problems because it acts like a sponge: absorbing water
which increases the weight on a roof, and acting as a frost and ice trap
damaging the surface of the covering and even pushing tiles up and
cracking them.
Many manufacturers do not recommend regular pressure washing of their
tiles as it can pit the surface and greatly increase the algaes ability
to grip and re-grow. But how can you clean them otherwise? Some people
do try a pressure washing regardless of caution, but it is awkward
work and inefficient as it may have to regularly repeated, at some cost
each time. Simply pouring chlorine based products or algacides on the
roof is effective in killing the algae and moss, but the dead remains
may stick where they are and require pressure washing to remove them.
Therefore we recommend Copper Ridge be fitted after the previous
methods of finally cleaning the roof have been carried out to avoid the
annual repeat performance of spraying and chemical treatment.
How it Works:
Combining natural forces and technical innovation the 99.9% pure copper
strips are fixed to the ridge in 2 metre lengths with fastenings.
Exposure to air and water creates oxidisation of the copper creating a
natural fungicide called Copper Sulphate - a highly effective moss
killer. The chemical residues gentle wash down the roofs surface
preventing the attachment of new lichen growth. |

So no moving parts and no maintenance.
To pressure wash a roof is always potentially dangerous to the operator,
likely to cause damage to tiles underfoot, and coursen the tile surface
allowing more algae to grip and grow, and certainly creates a mess
requiring gutters to be cleaned out afterwards. Copper Ridge will
prevent lichen and moss growth in future, for about 25 years depending
on location.
On initial inspection if your roof needs a final mechanical clean this
is carried out followed by a algacidal/fungicidal spray or brush
application and then cleaning out of the gutters. Copper Ridge is fitted
and that is the end of your roof cleaning maintenance
schedule for a long
time!
Disclaimer: Most tile manufacturers have
produced recommendations for suitable or acceptable cleaning regimes for
their roof products, including suggestions for cleaning methods NOT
recommended. It is wise to check what
these are before fitting Copper Ridge or other cleaning methods in case
there is a risk of infringing the conditions of any warranty or lifetime
guarantees offered with your particular roof tile system.
We offer 3 levels of
service:
1. SUPPLY ONLY of Copper Ridge
2. SUPPLY & FIT of Copper Ridge
3. Brush clean, spray or brush with
fungicide, followed by fitting of Copper Ridge.
